One of the world’s oldest civilizations, India, is an all-embracing confluence of religions, thoughts and entrepreneurship. Its history of entrepreneurship stretches over 5000 years. Once called the Golden bird, it is expected to be the third largest consumer economy as its consumption may triple to US$ 5 trillion by 2025-26, owing to shift in consumer behavior and expenditure pattern.
Current landscape of Indian purchase is skewed towards International brands. In spite of the fact that these brands continue to be manufactured by Indian manufacturers, we are conditioned to buy them under a foreign brand label. The result, Big continues to become bigger and we continue to pay to Indian manufacturers through a via channel (foreign brand) as contract manufacturers.
At Indialane, we want to promote only Indian brands and products that meet the international product standards. In one way, we are bypassing the middlemen (foreign brand label) so that we move closer to the vision of being a self sufficient country ('Make in India'). If we want to have good quality Indian products available to us, we need to buy more of Indian brands. This will lead to Indian entrepreneurs investing in R&D, and specifically 'Make for India.'
